How to Become Your Own Game Developer with Adobe Flash

In 2006, I conceived the idea for a unique strategy board game that combined elements of role playing games, table top war games, and collectible card games. My dream: to become a game designer and have this product published for the world to enjoy.

The task seemed near impossible at the onset: how does an individual with no experience in the gaming industry become a success? The answer: take it one step at a time using creative development tools like Adobe Flash.

In this video presentation, I share with students of North Central College and members of the Naperville community the story of my journey, starting as an individual with a dream to creating a cross-platform, multiplayer web and mobile game and creating my own company using Adobe Flash technology.

In the years since its inception, Hero Mages has won multiple competitive awards, amassed a community of over 8,000 register players, and been featured in the Apple App Store. What’s more:  just minutes before I gave this presentation, I signed a studio support agreement with Game Salute who will be publishing a physical, tabletop version of Hero Mages. The dream has come full circle!

Steps to Success

  1. Choose the right tools for the job
  2. Focus on one challenge at a time
  3. Never give up

And always let passion be the drive of motivation!
